DIY Christmas Pyramid

The first time I ever saw a Christmas Pyramid I was at a friend's house and I instantly fell in love! I had wanted one ever since, but they were SO EXPENSIVE. Well one day I accompanied my husband to our local Goodwill and I found a horribly dirty, broken, unloved Christmas Pyramid. Upon closer inspection I saw there were two dusty bags attached that appeared to have ALL the broken off pieces! I paid $3.99! This would be quite the undertaking, look how dirty this thing was.

So broken!

SO MUCH DUST

I cleaned the Pyramid with an all-in-on kitchen cleaner and gently removed anything that hadn't already broken off so I could start fresh. From there I decided I could very easily make this match my Christmas décor by painting the chipped green bases a solid white.

I quickly sanded all the bases of each character to remove any residual green.

After the paint dried I used super glue to reattach all of the little characters, fences, and anything else. From here I was able to tell what was actually missing, and it was only a few little fence pieces. I made sure any missing fence pieces were only on the very top level, then used a few little greenery pieces and white berries to cover that space. I attached these pieces with hot glue.

Little greenery pieces from the Dollar Store.

    Now the finished Christmas Pyramid:

When the wind catches the fan blades everything spins around!

Here are a couple detail pictures at each level:

I am so beyond thrilled with how this turned out, I LOVE it! I can't wait for this to be a fixture in all of our Christmases to come. What's your greatest cheap find? Have you ever had to put in this much work to make something shine up like a new penny? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to see you again soon for more DIY, décor, cleaning, and more!

DIY Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle

Several years ago I walked into a secondhand store and fell in love with a GIANT old Victorian dollhouse. I had told myself I would revamp it for a little girl, or turn it into something fun for a little boy. When we found out about our son I decided to transform it into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for his Harry Potter themed nursery.      The dollhouse had been stored in a dear friend's garage for several years, until we had a place to put it. (Thank you Myrna!) My uncle drove it down to our house and it BARELY fit through the doorway. I opted to leave it in our tiled entry for the transformation process. I only had a couple months until the baby came, so I started working on it right away.  Before - the outside fron t   Before - the outside back (those doors have to go!)   I believe that when this dollhouse was constructed it had been specially made to house... cats. It had extra large openings and large carpeted platforms. Bef...

DIY World of Warcraft (For the Horde!) Themed First Birthday Party

Our son turned one this month and we threw him an epic birthday party! Since my husband and I met on World of Warcraft we decided it would be WoW based, and "Four the Horde!" themed (our son's nickname is Four as he is the 4th of his name).      I started by searching for the perfect invitation. I was surprised to find there really was not much by way of WoW themed birthdays on the internet. I was able to find a printable pack from Etsy  here . I used this for the invitation and a start to some decorations.      I enlisted the help of a good friend of mine who is much more well-versed than I am in Photoshop, and he made custom food tents, loosely using the purchased printable, for the foods we would actually be serving. He and I brainstormed food puns and alliterations to make them more special.           Next, I enlisted my husband to 3D print some custom decorations from the game. He printed them and I painted them....

DIY Housewarming Castle Gift

I have always thought it would be so fun to give a housewarming gift in the shape of a castle. Well in the spirit of "don't let you dreams be dreams," I made it happen!      A friend of ours had just bought his first home and was having a party to celebrate. This particular friend we know because he plays Dungeons & Dragons with us, so it only seemed fitting that he should get a housewarming gift in the shape of a castle!       Here is the finished product:      I had a general idea of how to construct the "castle" using a storage bin or two, toilet paper, and paper towel rolls. I went to the store and purchased those items along with other handy household items that he could actually use, which included: cleaning products, microfiber cloths, glade scent items, kitchen spoons, whisk, spatulas, lit roller, toilet brush, sink brush, duster, wood markers, tissues, drawer liners, and hand sanitizer. These I could just use a...
